A Day Out at Whipsnade Zoo

Stretching over 600 acres in Bedfordshire, Whipsnade Zoo (ZSL Whipsnade) is one of the UK’s largest and most prestigious zoos. What to See & Do

Here are some of the must-experience parts of Whipsnade Zoo:

  • Animal Zones & Exhibits Wide open enclosures for large mammals: rhinos, elephants etc., with space for them to roam. Explore and get up high with the giraffes. Take a moment to see the farm animals, or head inside to see the fish and butterflies.
  • Great Whipsnade Railway Take a ride on one of our steam engines, as they weave their way through the territories of some of the world's most inspiring animals.
  • Play Areas 
Hullabazoo Indoor Play – for children, especially useful if the weather turns. 
A massive outdoor playpark area suitable for all ages.
  • Feeding Times, Talks, Animal Experiences Whipsnade runs daily animal talks, feeding sessions, animal experiences you can book. The zoo often runs special events during the half terms and summer holidays with free or cheap activities to join in with.
  • Scenic Spots & Unique Features Enjoy the views across the Dunstable Downs, White Lion hill figure (a chalk outline on the hillside) near the rhino enclosure is iconic. Lots of open grassy areas, woods; good for picnics or relaxing in between the more active parts.

  • Car Entry / Parking: There is a free external car park at Whipsnade. Alternatively, you can drive into the Zoo grounds in specified areas for a car entry fee. (Blue Badge holders may enter by car for free)
  • Facilities & Accessibility: Wheelchairs and mobility scooters are available to hire (advance booking recommended).Pushchairs / buggies, double buggies are hireable. There are Indoor shelters, restaurant / cafés, picnic areas. Some exhibits are indoors or semi-indoors. Good for rainy days.
